Guide to the Lakes in the Lake District
Below is a list of the major Lakes, Tarns and Reservoirs in the Lake District. The lakes that end with 'Tarn' are often smaller bodies of water in size whilst the larger bodies of water often end with 'mere' or 'water'.
- Bassenthwaite Lake - A very unspoilt lake sorrounded by dense pine and beech forest, there are no cruise or pleasure boats on the Lake. Bassenthwaite Lake is a haven for wildlife inluding rare birds and fish and red squirrels.
