Boot

Within the valley of Eskdale you will find the small yet picturesque village of Boot. It has a small railway and turntable, which is part of the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway and set in stunning surroundings.

Hard Knot pass is the steepest road in the lakes and leads you to the village of Boot, which is where you will also find a small ruined Hard Knot roman fort. There is a bridge dating back to the 17th century that takes you to the even older Eskdale that dates back to 1578 where you can visit one of the last water corn mills left in the country.

A few minutes from Boot you will find a 60 foot water fall called Stanley Ghyll Force. The village has a couple of shops, public houses and lots of accommodation offers. Boot is a charming village and a great base to explore this picturesque region.
